CD: GOING PLACES - AFFAERE DREYFUSS
Going Places: A Musical Journey Around the World
The album's twelve tracks showcase the band's remarkable stylistic range. While firmly rooted in the traditions of Hard Bop and groove-oriented jazz, Going Places also draws inspiration from Global Music and contemporary jazz. Many of the compositions were inspired by the musicians' travels. The Latin-infused "Travel By Ear" evokes the vibrant atmosphere of Central America, while the high-energy "Carthage" reflects Dominik Fuss's impressions of Carthage in Tunisia, blending them with North African musical influences. As a contrast, "Viennese Anthem" is a soulful and heartfelt tribute to the band's hometown of Vienna, naturally composed in a traditional 3/4 Waltz-meter. The emotional ballad "Mesode", inspired by ancient Greek lyric poetry, serves as a timeless and introspective interlude. With "Waltz for Sissi", Martin Fuss dedicates a deeply personal composition to the mother and wife of the band's leaders. Alongside its original material, the band also pays tribute to some of its greatest musical inspirations with fresh, timeless arrangements of Clark Terry's Hard Bop classic "Boomerang",Phil Woods' tribute to Cannonball Adderley, "Julian", and a masterful interpretation of the century-old jazz standard"Sometimes I'm Happy", firmly rooted in the tradition of classic jazz.
Going Places is an album filled with joy, virtuosity, and infectious energy - a compelling statement from a band that, after ten remarkable years, is ready for its next chapter.
