An immensely lyrical sound.(...)“ Teddy Doernig, Jazzpodium |
Dominik Fuss is an award-winning Vienna-born trumpeter and composer whose work lives at the intersection of lyricism, exploration and deep musical storytelling.
Rooted in both jazz and classical traditions, his sound is intimate yet expansive – a voice shaped as much by silence and space as by notes and phrasing. Educated in Vienna, Graz & Cologne, Fuss studied with acclaimed artists such as Andi Haderer, Jim Rotondi and members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, forging a path that honors tradition while seeking out new sonic territory. His playing is marked by clarity of tone, emotional honesty and a rare sensitivity for improvisation. Fuss leads several original projects, including the genre-blurring Solo program VOID., a modern-bop jazz-sextet with his family Affäre Dreyfuss and a lyrical duo with pianist Jörg Leichtfried. These groups serve as platforms for his compositions – music that balances structure with freedom, melody with abstraction. He is also a frequent collaborator with ensembles like Studio Dan and Orjazztra Vienna.
A thoughtful educator and improviser, Fuss is committed to musical growth as a living - evolving process. His work invites listeners into a world of subtle intensity so each performance can become a moment of shared discovery.
